Funded by the Salvation Army and City of Toronto, this mural project was completed in the fall of 2024 to bring warmth, beauty, and inspiration to the Islington Seniors’ Shelter.

The project transformed three walls with vibrant, nature-inspired designs. Inside the dining hall, a mural of Birds of Paradise feeding on berries creates a serene and welcoming atmosphere. Outside, the patio features two distinct works: one wall showcases two singing parrots, representing joy and connection, while the other, a long wall extending down a ramp, illustrates a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, set against bright, abstract shapes to symbolize change and transformation.

Beyond enhancing the physical space, the project encouraged meaningful dialogue among shelter residents about the role of public art in the city and its power to foster connection and community.
